“The quality of the growing is very important.”

The way that the Sunday show has grown is marvellous, with all the stalls and music and activities.  It’s Knowsley’s showcase. It’s free and transport to the Show is free, if you need it (there are frequent free buses to and from locations all over Knowsley on the day). It’s something that anyone can come to. The stalls and activities at the Show are crucial. The Show has the marquee, which is really unique. People like it. And the family stalls bring loads of people to the marquee. The quality of the growing is very important. It’s spectacular. People don’t come in and say ‘It’s no better than I grow at home.’ There’s that element of spectacle. Its inspiring – the Wow! factor. Then they might think ‘I have no chance of competing with produce of this quality…’ and that’s why we have novice classes. It’s like paddling before you dive in!
