The Friends started in 1998, because there was a rumour that the Park was going to be sold for building. The role of the Friends is to protect and nurture the Park. Part of this is raising money to improve the park. We see the Flower Show as the pinnacle of the year – it shows off the Park and encourages people to feel that the Park is a resource for them.
