“The whole school was growing.”

I was teaching at a primary school in Anfield. LM (who taught at Roby Park School) and I met through Guiding. We were going to the same summer camp in Delamere. We hit it off straight away. In 2006 there was an allotment at Roby Park School, but it had overgrown because of building work. It had been fenced off. I had just retired so I went to clear the ground to start the allotment again. Then the children started growing flowers and vegetables again. It was very popular. The playground drainage was poor, so we were paddling round the allotment beds some of the time. Gradually conditions improved. Eventually we ran a course on growing for other teachers. The whole school were growing. We had a rota for different classes.
