I remember bottling rhubarb and adding cochineal to colour it. That was a cheat! We also salted an apple tart to keep the apples from browning, before the Show. It was inedible because of the salt, but fortunately, judges didn’t taste it! We had so much rhubarb that we used bundle it up and sell it door-to-door.
